The Federation of Islamic Organizations in Russia Distributes Copies of the Holy Quran to Prison Inmates in the Arkhangelsk Oblast Region

The Federation of Islamic Organizations in Russia in collaboration with the Society for Muslims of Arkhangelsk presented 20 copies of the Holy Quran in translation to the library of prisons in the governorate of Arkhangelsk, in the North West of Russia. This comes as a response to the request submitted by the Department of Corrections, answering the needs of Muslim prison inmates as well as introducing the Islamic religion to non-Muslims. In this context Mr.Merza Mohamed the head of the Society for the Muslims of Arkhangelsk expressed his approval of the communication and cooperation between the society and the Department, which is portrayed by the periodic visits that are done by the society to the prisons of the region. During the visits, some lectures are given, as well as answering questions posed by the inmates, and distributing written material, and offering aid to the prisoners in need. The society also follows up on Muslim prisoners on parole. It is worthy to note that many of the ex prisoners have announced their redemption and many non-Muslims have embraced the Muslim faith
